The main psychoactive compounds:
- Psilocybin (4-phosphoryloxy-N, N-dimethyltryptamine)
- Psilocin (4-hydroxy-N, N-dimethyltryptamine)
- Baeocystin (4-phosphoryloxy-N-methyltryptamine)
- Norvaeocystin (4-phosphoryl oxytryptamine)
Psilocin and psilocybin are substances isolated by Albert Hofmann in 1958 from his closely related, less powerful species, P. Mexicana. Baeocystin and norbaeocystin are thought to be less psychoactive than psilocybin and psilocin, but all four compounds are thought to cause hallucinations.
Dose of Psilocybe Cubensis
The chemistry and psychological predisposition of individual brains play an important role in determining the correct dosage. For a moderate psychedelic effect, take at least 1 gram of dried Cubunsis mushrooms orally. Generally, 0.25-1 grams gives a mild effect and 1-2.5 grams gives a moderate effect. A strong effect is usually achieved with 2.5 grams or more. For most people, dry 3.5 grams (1/8 ounce) is considered a high dose and can provide an intense experience. For many, doses above 3.5 grams quickly become unmanageable. For a few rare people, low doses of 0.25 grams usually have the full effect associated with very high doses. However, for most people, the dose level has virtually no effect.
The effect usually begins after about 20-60 minutes (depending on how it is taken and what is in the stomach) and lasts 4-5 hours, depending on the dose. Hallucinatory effects are common, such as breathing walls, vibrant color boosts, and organically shaped animations. At higher doses, the experience tends to be less social, more attractive, and often inherently intense and spiritual.
The effects of very high doses can be overwhelming. Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms come in a variety of sizes, depending on the particular strain, cultivation method and age at harvest. It is advisable to weigh the actual mushrooms rather than counting them.
