Haliburton Hospital: Accessibility and Patient Experience

Haliburton Hospital, located in Haliburton, Ontario, offers essential medical services to the community. One crucial aspect of this facility is its commitment to accessibility for all patients.

Wheelchair-Accessible Entrance

The hospital features a wheelchair-accessible entrance, ensuring that patients with mobility challenges can enter the building comfortably. This commitment to accessibility is vital in creating an inclusive environment for everyone seeking medical care.

Wheelchair-Accessible Car Park

Additionally, Haliburton Hospital provides a wheelchair-accessible car park. This feature minimizes obstacles for patients arriving by car, allowing them easier access to the hospital’s services. Such accommodations are essential for individuals requiring assistance or those transporting patients in need of special care.

Patient Experiences

While accessibility is a strong point, patient experiences at Haliburton Hospital vary widely. Some individuals have reported long wait times, particularly in emergency situations. For instance, one patient expressed frustration after waiting for over five hours with severe chest pain, only to see others being treated before them. This situation has led some to question the prioritization system in place during busy periods. Conversely, there are numerous positive accounts emphasizing the professionalism and compassion of the staff. Many patients have praised the care received during critical moments, highlighting how the medical team effectively managed their conditions. Reports of quick service and thorough examinations have been noted, especially from patients who were transported via ambulance.

Conclusion

Haliburton Hospital stands as a critical healthcare resource in the region. With its wheelchair-accessible entrances and parking, it shows a commitment to making healthcare available for everyone. However, the feedback on patient experiences underscores the importance of addressing wait times and care prioritization to ensure every individual receives timely and effective medical attention.

Outstanding health care for me Mum. The doctors, nurses, and administrators offer professional and caring service.

Great job, Haliburton hospital, continue with your excellent work. Tremendous service!

This hospital, I tell ya, it's like a proper madhouse these days. Ever since that Minden ER shut down, poor old Haliburton hospital has been overrun with all its patients. They're really bustin' their chops tryin' to keep up with the demand, but it's a right shame, innit? I reckon closin' down a busy ER without a proper plan is just settin' another place up for failure. It's like they're tryin' to sway us towards privatization by makin' our public health care system a bloomin' nightmare.

I arrived at the hospital by ambulance around 6:00 on June 10, 2021. Despite the busy atmosphere, I received top-notch care. A big thank you to Dr. Anna Costia for her thoroughness and expertise in diagnosing my vertigo.

My missus had a proper emergency Saturday night. All them nurses, doctor, and paramedics were top-notch, they were! Quick as lightning, they were, and I can't thank 'em enough for their stellar service and help. Cheers, mates!

There was a bit of a wait as expected due to the reduced staff, but they were working hard and made sure to keep me informed about the approximate wait time. Dr. Jonathan was incredibly helpful and considerate of my issue, and the staff definitely showed empathy towards me.

I've been waiting for a good 5 hours in a room with about 10 other people. It feels like there's only one doctor in this entire building. I highly recommend heading over to Lindsey Hospital instead. My foot is throbbing and I could really use some help.
Diane Patterson (2025-07-12, 11:56 p.m.):
I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to the EMS, Volunteer Firefighters, Doctors, and all the staff at Haliburton Hospital. On Sunday, October 1st, at 9:30 pm, I was brought to the hospital with intense abdominal pain. The staff were incredibly kind and efficient in caring for me. I was kept overnight and made comfortable before being transferred to Lindsay the next morning for a CT Scan, followed by emergency surgery for acute appendicitis. Everyone involved made my unbearable pain more bearable. Thank you.
Harper Smith (2025-07-12, 7:20 a.m.):
Seldom do I find myself waiting for an extended period. The service is attentive, with personable local nurses and doctors.
Janice Ramos (2025-07-10, 3:01 a.m.):
I cannot praise the professional and caring staff enough. We are truly lucky to have such a top-notch facility in our neighborhood.
Gloria Long (2025-07-09, 5:46 a.m.):
I must say, mate, the experience I had at the hospital was quite off. They tried to fob me off three times in a row for an X-ray when I came in with a dreadful chest pain. Would you believe they suggested nasal spray for clearing my sinuses? My sinuses are fine, it's my chest that’s killing me. And then they mentioned some blood test results. But hang on a sec, they never even took my blood! Something ain't right. Think I might just head over to the city for a second opinion. Cheers!
Aaron Kim (2025-07-07, 7:55 a.m.):
I say, what a 5+ hour wait I endured when I popped into the emergency room with something lodged in my eye. Quite the ordeal, wouldn't you agree?
Sara Perry (2025-07-06, 6:07 p.m.):
Absolutely dreadful wait time, a whopping 7 hours of waiting only to be informed that it could stretch on for another 7 hours. Just one doctor, completely unhelpful, and no beds available. It's a disgraceful lack of service. They ought to inform people right at the start of those initial 7 hours about the expected total wait time, that would at least be considerate.
Mia Martinez (2025-07-05, 1:25 p.m.):
I had the pleasure of seeing Doctor K on July 10th, 2020. Let me tell you, he is a straightforward and genuine physician who always speaks the truth. He truly is top-notch and the best in his field. A big thank you to him and his wonderful nurses for their exceptional care.
Kathryn Smith (2025-06-27, 10:05 a.m.):
I went to General Hospital today for a mishap with me fingers trapped in the log splitter, yikes! The staff were absolutely amazing, and I can't thank them enough. We're so fortunate to have such a top-notch facility and team in our community. I was in and out within an hour - absolutely fantastic!
Jonathan Hayes (2025-06-24, 8:38 p.m.):
This hospital is absolutely ridiculous! I've been sitting here for a good 5 hours, and then this woman's daughter walks in with a limp and gets fast-tracked ahead of everyone else. Some of us have been waiting in the waiting room for over 7 hours, and she just sails on through to the front of the line. I wouldn't dream of recommending this hospital to anyone after this experience.
Doris Rivera (2025-06-17, 7:38 p.m.):
Warm, efficient, and meticulous
Katherine Nelson (2025-06-17, 6:19 a.m.):
Thank you, Haliburton Hospital. You have the loveliest, non-judgmental nurses and doctors who provided excellent care for my sister. She was experiencing seizures due to alcohol and was treated with such compassion. Being homeless and depressed, she received outstanding support. We have had experiences in many hospitals, and Haliburton is now our favorite. Thanks once again, you have created a heartwarming memory and greatly assisted my sister. She mentioned, 'they truly cared about me.' ❤️
Andrew Howard (2025-06-16, 2:33 p.m.):
I waited for a minimum of 5 hours since Minden closed, there always seems to be only one doctor on site for a typically full waiting room of 20 people. They only manage to see less than one patient per hour, with many others who arrived after me already being treated. Meanwhile, I am still waiting and unable to see the doctor.
Isabella Jenkins (2025-06-16, 2:18 a.m.):
I visited General Hospital about a month ago due to some problems with my father-in-law. It's common knowledge, or at least it should be, that healthcare workers have been facing challenging times lately. I want to express my gratitude to them for continuing to work long hours and not giving up on us. They were extremely professional, and I have no doubt that they have to exercise a lot of self-restraint. I hope to not have to return anytime soon, but my experience was better than I had anticipated. Thank you once again!
Sophia Ramirez (2025-06-14, 12:54 a.m.):
There's never a time when one wants to need Emerg., but over the last 30 years with young children, teenagers, and family, every time we've needed help, the staff at this hospital has been outstanding. It's not an easy job, worried and scared patients can be very hard work, and Covid has pushed the system to the limit. But the staff here are wonderful. Thank you so much.
