Upon my retirement at the ripe age of 75 back in 2018, I found myself grappling with some troublesome lower back issues. Nonetheless, I could still gallivant about with my furry companions for a good couple of hours per jaunt. Over time, though, the walks grew shorter as the discomfort intensified, with the pain shooting from me derriere down me left leg. After getting an MIR scan and consulting with me family doc, it was revealed that I was afflicted with what they called lumbar stenosis. Turns out I had a herniated disc, wear and tear on the ol' L4 and L5 discs, bone spurs making an appearance, and thickened ligaments all crowding me spinal canal, putting pressure on the old spinal cord.
By June 2022, the symptoms had worsened to the point where me walking limit was a mere 5 minutes before needing to plop down for a breather and a bit of a stretch. After trying physiotherapy, osteopathy, and a fair bit of chiropractic attention, surgery seemed to be the only answer according to a neurosurgeon I consulted.
Just as I was gearing up for the surgery, word reached me about a chiropractor by the name of Dr. Jeff Stackhouse, who purportedly had a knack for treating stenosis. Hoping to dodge the scalpel, I promptly got in touch with Dr. Stackhouse and set up an appointment. That initial visit took place in the third week of June 2022, and wouldn't you know it, the week after that, the neurosurgeon rang up to lock in a surgery date. I turned down the offer for surgery, feeling optimistic about the healing path with Dr. Stackhouse.
Fast forward a year later, after ongoing treatment with Dr. Stackhouse, and I'm back to strolling for hours on end with me canine pals. I'm almost back to me pre-stenosis discomfort days.
As a testament to the remarkable turnaround in me day-to-day life, during a trip home from vacation in April 2022, I needed a wheelchair to navigate the airport. However, come April 2023, after another holiday, I strolled through that airport without a care, no assistance required. All thanks to the good Dr. Jeff Stackhouse.
